Duo Bailenga is a musical and performing project of Italian folk and Balfolk with a World Music twist, formed by Elisa Guarraggi and Pietro Ariotti, and founded in Alessandria in 2020. The project has grown through research trips into the instrumental music and polyphony of the Mediterranean area and through the management of artistic, social, and educational activities. The group’s main goal is to revisit tradition to bring the dimension of popular festivals to every location, offering a repertoire that is both danceable and enjoyable. Their shows combine theatricality with folk song and dance, leading the audience through a passionate and engaging experience. The repertoire is entirely composed of traditional songs and songs from various regions of Italy. Their first EP, “Bailenga,” released in October 2024, ranges from the folk music of Northern and Southern Italy. Each song is arranged in an original way, blending sounds and rhythms from other cultures around the world. Their repertoire includes: polyphonic songs from various origins, music from the Four Provinces, Neapolitan classical music, Salento pizzica, Campanian tammurriata, songs from Puglia and Sicily, Balfolk dances (polka, waltz, Scottish, chapelloise, etc.), Occitan dances, Albanian and Arbëreshë songs and dances, Greek songs, and Brazilian dances and rhythms (forrò).
